Welcome to 4th Grade!
I am so pleased to have your child in my classroom. I am ready to make this school year a positive and happy one for everyone involved. Please inform me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns throughout the school year. I believe an open line of communication is necessary for a successful year in 4th Grade. I will communicate through notes, newsletters, progress reports, and by scheduled phone conferences and parent-teacher meetings. You may contact me by a note or email ([email protected]). You may also contact the school at 850-622-5041 and leave a message for me anytime. I am looking forward to an enjoyable and rewarding year with you and your child.
My name is Janie Johnston and I am originally from Winchester, Kentucky, right outside of Lexington. I graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Elementary Education. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades and in three different states--Kentucky, Georgia, and now Florida (where I plan to stay). I grew up on a farm where we raised cattle, corn, hay, tobacco, and had a big garden. It wasn’t until after I married Rich that I moved out of Central Kentucky. We moved to North Carolina, back to Kentucky, then to Marietta, Georgia, and finally to the Florida Panhandle where we plan to live the rest of our lives close to the beach. Rich and I have two almost grown boys—Jesse and Tyler. When I’m not teaching (which I love to do), I like to ride bikes, create art, read, walk along the beach, drive down 30A and stop in Seaside for barbeque and browsing, and just hang out with my family. Rich is a great cook, so my favorite place to eat I call “Chez Rich”—home! He knows just how I like everything from chai tea to crab cakes and fish sandwiches.
I am so excited to teach at Butler! This is such a wonderful school with the best staff anywhere! I am looking forward to helping your child learn and grow this year. Thank you for trusting me with your child!
